Ask Elumiere - What's the difference between a gel and a cream cleanser?

Cleansers - we all know their purpose, but do you ever get confused with all that's out there - jumping off the shelves, being smashed at you through advertising - it all leaves us very confused as to what is best for our skin, especially if we don't have a particularly disciplined skincare regime.

Well let's break this down. The difference between a gel and a cream skincare cleanser lies in their texture, ingredients, and suitability for different skin types:

Gel Cleansers:

  • They have a clear, gel-like consistency. (well of course)
  • They are typically lighter and more refreshing on the skin.
  • They're often water-based and may be oil-free.
  • Provide a gentle cleanse and may not foam as much as cream cleansers

Elumiere Skincare-

Botanical Gel Cleanser / Salicylic Acid Cleanser / Lactic Acid Gel Cleanser

Cream Cleansers:

  • They have a thicker, creamy texture
  • More moisturising and hydrating, ideal for dry or sensitive skin
  • Often contain oil-based ingredients which help to nourish the skin while cleansing
  • Offer a deep cleanse and can also remove makeup effectively
  • May provide more hydration compared to gel cleansers

Elumiere Skincare-

Botanical Cream Cleanser / Glycolic Acid Cream Cleanser

In summary, gel cleansers are great for a light, refreshing cleanse, especially for those with oilier skin types, while cream cleansers are better for providing a more nourishing wash, suitable for those with dry or mature skin. It’s always best to choose a cleanser based on your specific skin needs and concerns.
